152.4 Million kWh - Qinghai Zhongcong 50MW CSP Station Sets A New Record for Annual Power Generation

2024-01-01

On January 1, a celebratory announcement was made at Qinghai Zhongkong Delingha 50MW CSP Station. As of 24:00 on December 31, 2023, the annual cumulative power generation of the power station reached 152.4 million kWh, achieving 104.4% of the designed annual target power generation (146 million kWh). This marks yet another overachievement following the 100.3% completion rate in 2022, setting a new record for annual electricity generation.

As a benchmark for the operation of CSP projects both domestically and internationally, the power station overcame challenges posed by insufficient solar irradiance in the first half of 2023. Helius Operation and Maintenance team employed scientific management, precise strategies and continuous optimization of operational protocols, resulting in significant performance recovery in the second half of the year, and breaking monthly power generation record many times.

Background:

Qinghai Zhongkong 50MW CSP Station is one of the first batch of CSP generation demonstration projects in China and the first tower molten salt energy storage CSP station in the world whose actual annual power generation exceeds the designed annual power generation. With an installed capacity of 50MW, the power station features a heliostat field with a total light collection area of 542,700 square meters and a 7-hour molten salt energy storage system, which can save approximately 46,000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 121,000 tons annually.
